Ethiopian Airlines unveils state-of-the-art domestic terminal in Addis Ababa

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa's premier carrier, marked a significant milestone on Saturday with the inauguration of a cutting-edge domestic passenger terminal at Addis Ababa's Bole International Airport.

The newly unveiled terminal signifies Ethiopia's commitment to modernising its aviation infrastructure and promises to redefine the travel experience for both domestic and international passengers.

Valued at $50 million, the project represents a substantial investment in Ethiopia's aviation sector.

Mesfin Tassew, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, emphasised the terminal's pivotal role in facilitating the country's integration, socio-economic development, and tourism sector.

"The domestic terminal expansion and renovation at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport is a significant addition to our initiative of modernising and renovating airports and aviation facilities in the country," Mesfin said.

The expanded terminal, covering an impressive 25,270 square metres, boasts state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance passenger comfort and streamline travel processes.

With four contact gates, 10 remote departure gates, and 22 check-in counters equipped with automated baggage screening systems, passengers can expect a seamless journey from check-in to boarding.

Additionally, modern security screening systems, self-check-in kiosks, and a premier passengers' lounge further elevate the travel experience.

The development aligns with Ethiopian Airlines' broader vision of positioning Ethiopia as a global tourism destination.

Minister of Tourism Nasise Chali highlighted the terminal's role in bolstering the country's tourism sector and enhancing its international reputation.

"The renovated and expanded domestic passenger terminal will play a critical role in streamlining the country's tourism sector by providing a better travel experience to domestic and international travellers and tourists," he said.

Senior Ethiopian government officials, Ethiopian Airlines executives, and project contractors attended the inauguration event, underscoring the significance of this achievement.

As Ethiopian Airlines continues to implement its ambitious 15-year strategic plan, Vision 2035, the inauguration of the domestic terminal marks a decisive step towards realising the airline's vision of becoming one of the world's leading aviation groups.
