Tusker, Gor Mahia, KCB, and Kenya Police FC cleared for 2024/25 CAF Inter Club competitions

Gor is set to represent Kenya in the CAF Champions League while Kenya Police and KCB have a chance to play in the CAF Confederation Cup

The Football Kenya Federation’s First Instance Body (FIB), an independent decision-making entity formed by all CAF member associations, has granted licenses to Tusker, Gor Mahia, KCB, and Kenya Police football clubs for the 2024/25 CAF Inter Club Competitions.

This decision comes after these clubs successfully met the CAF Club Licensing requirements for the upcoming competitions.

Gor Mahia will represent Kenya in the CAF Champions League, while KCB and Kenya Police are set to compete in the Mozzart Bet Cup final this weekend to determine Kenya’s representative in the CAF Confederations Cup. Tusker, meanwhile, had a strong chance for qualification at the time of their document submission.

The club licensing process is integral to promoting the professionalization of football worldwide. It establishes minimum standards that clubs must meet to participate in competitions, thereby improving the overall quality and level of football. The objectives of this process include ensuring that clubs have appropriate infrastructure, knowledge, and management, adapting and improving sporting infrastructure, enhancing the economic and financial capacity of clubs through proper governance, and guaranteeing the sustainability of both local and international competitions.

All clubs that qualify for the CAF Inter Club competitions based on sporting merit must obtain a license before participating. Consequently, the four Kenyan clubs applied for their licenses through the CAF Club Licensing Online Platform (CLOP) by the June 13, 2024 deadline. The FIB evaluated these clubs on five key criteria: Sporting, Infrastructure, Personnel and Administration, Legal, and Financial. Licenses were granted after a thorough review of the submitted documents.

The FIB will continue to support the clubs throughout the season, offering guidance and maintaining the authority to revoke licenses if the clubs fail to adhere to the set regulations. This ongoing oversight ensures that the clubs uphold the required standards, fostering a more professional and competitive football environment in Kenya.

This achievement signifies a significant step forward in enhancing the professional standards of football clubs in Kenya, ensuring they are well-prepared to compete on the continental stage in the CAF Inter Club Competitions.
