Gor Mahia shortlist 12 for vacant coach role after receiving over 50 applications

By |

The club's Technical Committtee is expected to analyse the final short list and settle on the next coach on Saturday

Gor Mahia has shortlisted 12 coaches to replace Northern Irishman Johnathan McKinstry, who left the club this month to take over as coach of the Gambian national football team.

Speaking to The Eastleigh Voice, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier also revealed that the club received over 50 applications for the vacant position.

Rachier stated, "We have prepared a shortlist of 12 coaches based on their age, nationality (English language proficiency), qualifications, coaching experience, and salary demands."

"We want a coach who is not too young or too old," Rachier added.

McKinstry, 38, became Gor Mahia coach in August 2022, when he was 36 years old, making him the youngest coach in the club's recent history.

Zdravko Logarusic, Bobby Williamson, Frank Nutall, Ze Maria, Dylan Kerr, Hasan Oktay, and Mark Harrison were 46, 52, 46, 43, 50, 44, and 61 years old, respectively, when they started their reigns as Gor Mahia coaches.

It is possible that Gor Mahia would hire a coach in that age range.

The committee handling the appointment of the new coach has received the names and will meet on Saturday to review their credentials and select the most qualified applicant for the position, according to Rachier.

"The applications came from far and wide."Coaches in Europe and some based in Africa have applied for the job," Rachier said.

At this juncture, Gor Mahia has chosen to keep the names of the coaches who have applied for the job and those who have been shortlisted confidential, as some of them have ongoing contracts with their respective clubs.
