This operation is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate drug trafficking networks in the region, following a directive from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in February. Gachagua emphasized the urgent need to dismantle drug cartels that have infiltrated security apparatuses and are wreaking havoc in the area.
According to Gachagua, drug barons operate with impunity, exploiting weaknesses in law enforcement. He pledged a comprehensive effort to combat drug-related crimes.
"Drugs being peddled at the Coast have hurt our children. The drugs are sold as chiefs, police and government officers watch. We have come to fight drugs," Gachagua warned.
The arrested suspect is believed to be a significant narcotics supplier in the South Coast region, allegedly importing drugs from Tanzania through Migori County.
"The suspect has been under surveillance following intelligence reports suggesting her involvement in the distribution of narcotics within the South Coast," the statement noted.
Detectives emphasized the seriousness of the fight against drug trafficking and called on all individuals engaged in illegal activities to surrender and engage in legal businesses.
The suspect is scheduled to appear at the Msambweni Law Courts on Monday to face charges related to drug trafficking.
