Eastleigh residents on edge as armed youth roam street at midnight

By |

The incident, which occurred at Mina Towers on Kirongothi Street a few days ago, has instilled fear among residents.

Fear has gripped residents of Eastleigh as dangerous and armed youth roam the streets from midnight.

A viral video captured on closed-circuit television depicts two men attacking another man wearing a kanzu before robbing him.

In the video, one assailant strikes the unidentified man from behind, with another soon joining in. Together, they corner him and he is pushed against a wall before relieving him of grabbing his possessions.

The victim is then seen limping away, suggesting he may have sustained a leg injury during the altercation.

Surprisingly, bystanders appear walking past the incident without offering assistance.

This area is usually busy with various businesses including bakeries, wholesale shops, and a hospital. Business owners report that such robberies have become rampant in the area. These individuals target the late hours of the night when businesses are closed and foot traffic is sparse.

Abdirashid Hassan, who operates a clinic in the building where the incident took place, expressed concern over the escalating insecurity.

"There is insecurity here," he said. "You can be attacked anytime past midnight by robbers."

Mothers in the area, speaking anonymously, lamented the confidence of some of the thugs, who they claim are well-known to the community. Despite their criminal behaviours, little action has been taken against them.

The Eastleigh Voice has been informed that Eastleigh North Police Station is handling the case, with officers visiting the area to assess the situation. However, none were available for comment at the time of inquiry.

Eastleigh has enjoyed relative security in recent times, with incidents of insecurity decreasing significantly.
