Mohamed Egal elected mayor of SeaTac City, Washington

Mohamed has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Agriculture from the Somali National University in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Mohamed Egal has been elected mayor of SeaTac City in Washington, US, for two years.

City Council members elected Mohamed on Tuesday, alongside Iris Guzmán, who will serve as deputy mayor for the same period.

Mohamed will be in charge of policy issues, land use and budget decisions for SeaTac City. He will oversee the  city's daily operations and advise, implement and administer policies adopted by the City Council.

Mohamed has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Agriculture from the Somali National University in Mogadishu, Somalia, and a Senior Leadership Certificate from Washington Leading Age Institute in Tacoma, Washington.

He has over two decades of senior social services programme management experience, including as a resident’s services coordinator at Community Life Foundation/Senior Housing for Ageless Generation (SHAG), and programme manager at the Somali Community Services Coalition.

He chairs the Planning and Economic Development Committee and is a member of the Parks and Recreation and the King County Sheriff’s Office Community Advisory committees.

Mohamed is also a member of the SeaTac-Tukwila Rotary Club and volunteers with many local nonprofits.

Previously, he worked as a program manager and community engagement specialist at the Somali Community Services of Seattle, a local nonprofit.
