“Makadara Law Courts and all courts across the country shall comply with the following Directions on Security Measures with effect from June 24, 2024,” Koome said.
The Deputy Chief Justice lamented that many judicial officers live in fear of being attacked.
IG Koome added that police stations assign protective safety and security duties to the judiciary officers throughout the country.
Ruto stated that the confrontation, threats, or attacks of any form against judicial officers are unacceptable, criminal, and an affront to the rule of law.
The Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association (KJMA) announced that they will not work from June 19 to June 21, 2024, in protest over ‘poor working conditions’.
Following the fatal shooting of Makadara Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti, they will hold demonstrations in demands for proper and safer working conditions.
A new schedule for judges of the Court of Appeal will be announced soon, the JSC says, as it pauses activities to honour Kivuti's life and service.
Kîvuti was moved to the Nairobi Hospital on Friday for specialised treatment and Chief Justice Martha Koome visited her in the afternoon.
