In efforts to fast-track justice for the victims, the National Assembly's Defence Committee has since launched an inquiry into the activities of the British Army Training Unit Kenya (Batuk)
One of the most profiled alleged abuses by Batuk is the killing of Agnes Wanjiru in 2012, whose body was found in a Nanyuki hotel’s septic tank.
The inquiry follows allegations of corruption, fraud, discrimination, and abuse of power within the unit, as well as mistreatment, torture, unlawful detention, killings, and violations of internationally recognised human rights standards.
