Fuel prices decrease by Sh1 in latest EPRA review

The costs of a litre of the three products decreased by Sh1, Sh1.20, and Sh1.30, respectively, retailing at Sh192.84, Sh179.18, and Sh168.76 in Nairobi.

The prices of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene dropped by roughly Sh1 each on Tuesday in the regulatory authority's review for the May 15 to June 14 period.

The costs of a litre of the three products decreased by Sh1, Sh1.20, and Sh1.30, respectively, retailing at Sh192.84, Sh179.18, and Sh168.76 in Nairobi.

The prices include the 16 per cent value-added tax, in line with the Finance Act of 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act of 2020, and the revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

"The average landed cost of imported super petrol increased by 3.82 per cent from US$737.69 per cubic metre in March 2024 to US$765.87 per cubic metre in April 2024; diesel decreased by 0.46 per cent from US$722.51 per cubic metre to US$719.21 per cubic metre, while kerosene increased by 0.50 per cent from US$725.31 per cubic metre to US$728.97 per cubic metre," the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) explained in a statement.

In Mombasa, a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh189.66, diesel at Sh176.01, and kerosene at Sh165.59, while in Nakuru, the three commodities will cost Sh191.90, Sh178.62, and Sh168.26, respectively.

In Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, super petrol will cost Sh192.67, diesel Sh179.39, and kerosene Sh169.02, while in Kisumu, super petrol will retail at Sh192.66, diesel at Sh179.39, and kerosene at Sh169.01.

In Isiolo, a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh196.01, diesel at Sh182.35, and kerosene at Sh171.92, while in Garissa, the products will cost Sh197.31, Sh183.66, and Sh173.22, respectively.

The prices in Marsabit are Sh201.27, Sh187.61,, and Sh177.19, respectively, while in Wajir, they are Sh202.78, Sh189.13, and Sh178.70, respectively.

Motorists in Mandera will pay Sh206.84 for a litre of super petrol, Sh193.18 for diesel, and Sh182.76 for kerosene.

In the last April 15–May 14 review, the prices of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene dropped by big margins, much to the relief of the public which has been complaining about the high cost of living.

A litre of super petrol cost Sh5.31 less, from Sh199.15 to Sh193.84 while a litre of diesel retailed at Sh180.38 from Sh190.38 and the same quantity of kerosene sold for Sh170.06 from Sh188.74.

Kerosene and diesel registered the biggest price drops, at Sh18.68 and Sh10, respectively.
