Kenya's Agnes Ngetich breaks 10km World Record in Valencia

Agnes Ngetich has smashed the 10-kilometre road race world record by an astonishing 28 seconds at the 10k Valencia Ibejcaja. 

Agnes Ngetich has become the first woman to run a 10-kilometre race in under 29 minutes.

The Kenyan smashed the world record for the 10-kilometre road race by an astonishing 28 seconds, crossing the line in 28:46 at the 10k Valencia Ibejcaja on Sunday.

The 22-year-old becomes the first woman to break 29 minutes for the distance. Her record awaits ratification procedures by the World Athletics.

The previous road mixed race world record was set by Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw in Castellon two years ago.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Nawwamba congratulated Ngetich on X, saying, "Stepped out of church this blessed sunny Sunday to the beautiful news of Agnes Ngetich smashing the World Record in the 10km Road Race in Valencia Spain. I have spoken with Agnes on the phone to congratulate her on this superb feat. Whole of Kenya is proud of you Agie. Hongera!"
