The ceremony was a testament to Mombasa County's dedication to excellence in healthcare delivery.

Mombasa County's Department of Health emerged as a dominant force at the 2024 Quality Healthcare Awards, winning nine out of the 13 available awards.

The ceremony, held in Nairobi on Sunday night, April 7, 2024, was a testament to Mombasa County's dedication to excellence in healthcare delivery.



Chief Officer Public Health Abdallah Daleno, who led the Mombasa County team at the event, stated that Mombasa County, under the direction of Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir, continues to set the bar for healthcare excellence across the nation. 

“I express gratitude for the dedication and collaboration of partners throughout the healthcare improvement journey. The recognition received at the Quality Healthcare Awards serves as a testament to Mombasa County's unwavering commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to its residents,” Abdallah stated. 

“The Department of Health remains steadfast in its mission to prioritise the health and well-being of its communities, working tirelessly to achieve better health outcomes for all," he added. 

Among the total 45 finalists drawn from various regions across the country, Mombasa County representatives, comprising 53 per cent of the contenders, shone brightly.

With over 4,800 applications received nationwide, the recognition of Mombasa County's exceptional performance underscored its commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes for its residents. The department's achievements across various categories further highlighted its comprehensive approach to addressing healthcare challenges and driving positive change.

Among the notable wins, Changamwe Sub-County received the Award of Excellence for its outstanding efforts in improving access to primary healthcare services, while Likoni Sub-County Hospital was recognised for advancing maternal, newborn, and child health initiatives.

Kidunguni Dispensary's innovative healthcare projects earned it the Health Facility Innovation Project of the Year award, showcasing the department's commitment to embracing cutting-edge solutions.

Ruwaida Hussein, in charge of the Kisauni Dispensary, was honoured with the Health Professional Achievement Award, underscoring the importance of individual dedication and expertise in delivering quality care.

Additionally, the department's initiatives in addressing non-communicable diseases, leveraging information technology for patient care, and improving access to medical products and vaccines were acknowledged with excellence awards in their respective categories.

Tudor Sub-County Hospital's innovative approaches to healthcare financing were recognised with the Award of Excellence in Healthcare Financing Innovation, highlighting Mombasa County's efforts to ensure sustainable funding mechanisms for healthcare services.

Moreover, Phyllis Kemunto, representing the Sub-County Ministry of Health in Jomvu, was honoured with the Healthcare Leadership Award, emphasising the crucial role of effective leadership in driving healthcare transformation.
