Ruto was recognised for his unwavering commitment to accountability for all citizens.

Ghana has conferred its highest accolade, The Companion of the Order of the Star of the Volta, upon President William Ruto, who is on a State visit to the country.

Ruto was recognised for his unwavering commitment to accountability for all citizens through adherence to all due processes stipulated by the law.

During the State banquet held on Wednesday, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo further hailed Ruto as an emblem of a new wave of African leaders dedicated to upholding principles, regardless of the challenges or potential political ramifications.

“Under your leadership, Kenya has become a shining example of a nation governed by the rule of law,” Akufo-Addo praised Ruto.

The Ghanaian president also lauded Kenya’s transformation under Ruto’s stewardship, highlighting its emergence as a beacon of lawful governance and its renewed prominence on the global stage.

He said under President Ruto's leadership, Kenya has regained respect and recognition on the international stage.

The Secretary General of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, Wamkele Mene, also commended President Ruto for his exemplary leadership, particularly in fostering inclusivity and economic integration across the continent

Ruto embarked on his inaugural visit to Ghana since his inauguration in September 2022.

While in Ghana, he solidified the country’s partnership with Kenya through the signing of seven agreements aimed at bolstering bilateral relations.

President Ruto underscored the importance of these Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in facilitating trade and investment between the two nations, covering areas such as commerce, science and technology, tourism, education, governance, and defence.

Ghana further backed Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship. Raila is seeking to succeed incumbent AUC chair Moussa Faki Mahamat of Chad in the elections planned for February 2025

In return, Ruto stated that Kenya will support Ghana’s candidature for the Secretary General of the Commonwealth.

“Your Excellency, my Dear Brother, I thank you most sincerely for accepting to support Kenya’s candidature for the position of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (2025-2028),” Ruto stated.
