KeNHA announces eight-day closure of Mombasa Road section for maintenance

By |

According to the Authority, the closure will last from June 15, 2024, to Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 6:00 a.m.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has temporarily closed a section of the Mombasa-bound lanes on Mombasa Road (A8) at Lake Oil (Konza) Petrol Station, located four kilometres before Malili Town.

According to the Authority, the closure will last from June 15, 2024, to Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 6:00 a.m.

KeNHA Director General Kung'u Ndung'u said the closure is necessary to allow for essential highway maintenance works.

“One lane will be closed while the other will remain in operation,” he said.

During the closure of the Nairobi bound lane, motorists heading to Nairobi have been urged to use the diversion, as the Mombasa bound will operate normally.

Once the Mombasa-bound lane is closed, Ndung'u said motorists heading to Mombasa will be diverted to the Nairobi-bound lane through the affected section, and the Nairobi-bound traffic will continue using the diversion.

Caution

Motorists have also been advised to approach the affected area with caution and to follow the traffic signs and directions promptly.

“All motorists intending to use Mombasa Road (A8) Mombasa bound lanes on this section are further advised to approach the affected section with caution. Follow the traffic signs and guidance in place as shall be directed by Police and Traffic Marshalls on site,” Ndung'u said.

The announcement comes as part of ongoing maintenance works by the Authority in recent weeks.

Earlier this week, a section of Mombasa Road was closed between June 13 and June 16 for maintenance near the Katani Road Junction along the lanes heading towards Mombasa Road.

The four-day closure was to facilitate the construction of the mid-span footbridge foundation on the busy highway.

It has also temporarily closed a section of the Uhuru Highway between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and the Nakuru-bound carriageway.

The closure started on Friday, June 14 at 11 pm and will remain out of service until Sunday, June 23 at 11 pm.

All motorists intending to use the Uhuru Highway (A8) Nakuru Bound section were urged to use alternative routes such as Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, River Side and Ring Road Kileleshwa.
