Public Service Commission shortlists 11 candidates for CEO position

Gababo Dido Jillo from Marsabit County and Mahat Osman Shalle from Garissa County are among the 11 candidates shortlisted for the position of Chief Executive Officer at the Public Service Commission.

In a notice on Friday, the shortlisted candidates comprise five female and six male candidates from various regions across the country.

The other candidates include Judy Wangechi Njeru from Nyeri, Sylvester Odhiambo Obong’o (Homabay), Joan Machayo (Bungoma), and Christopher Leparan Tialal from Narok County.

Others are Bahati Keranga Mwita from Migori, Nashipae Yiapan (Elgeyo Marakwet), Paul Famba (Trans Nzoia), Irene Cherotich Asienga (Kericho)n and Brian Muithya Mutie from Makueni

These candidates will undergo interviews at the Public Service Commission headquarters located at Commission House, Harambee Avenue on May 22 and May 23, 2024

“Candidates should be at the venue at least fifteen (15) minutes before the start of the time,” reads the notice.

They must present original copies of various documents, including national identity cards, academic and professional certificates, and clearances from relevant authorities.

The PSC also invited members of the public to provide any credible information about the shortlisted candidates.

This feedback, submitted through affidavits or via email, will aid the commission in making informed decisions during the selection process.

The current Chief Executive Officer, Simon Rotich, assumed office on August 1, 2019.

According to regulations, the CEO serves a five-year term, with the possibility of reappointment.

Rotich, a seasoned civil servant with a distinguished career spanning over three decades, has held various positions within the civil service hierarchy, including CEO of the Commission on Implementation of the Constitution.

The CEO of the Public Service Commission holds a pivotal role within the organisation, serving as the head of the secretariat and the custodian of the commission's seal.

Responsibilities include executing commission decisions, assigning duties, supervising staff, ensuring compliance with public service principles, and preparing programmes to fulfil the commission's mandate.

The recruitment process for the next CEO underscores the commission's commitment to upholding professionalism, integrity, and transparency in public service leadership.
