FKFPL: KCB FC breaks winless streak with victory over Shabana FC

By |

Shabana FC's struggles persisted as the defeat to the bankers was their 14th of the season

KCB FC secured a 3-2 win against Shabana FC in an entertaining Football Kenya Premier League (FKFPL) match played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Friday 8th March.

The victory was important for the bankers as it effectively put  an end to their eight-game winless streak.

Both teams entered the game amidst struggles, with KCB desperate for their first win of the year and Shabana enduring a dismal run with just one win in their last five matches. Shabana's woes were compounded by their second-to-last position in the league standings.

The match was overshadowed by the absence of Shabana fans, who boycotted the game due to what they deemed as excessive ticket prices set by KCB.

Despite the empty stands, KCB took the lead in the 14th minute through Derrick Otanga's penalty kick.

Before halftime, Shabana's hopes dwindled further as Philemon Nyakwaka scored his debut premier league goal, doubling KCB's lead. Otanga extended the lead with another goal from a free kick at the hour mark, while Brian Magare managed to pull one back for Shabana.

Despite a late own goal by Farouk Shikalo, Shabana failed to salvage a point from the match as  KCB defended resolutely to secure the win.

After the win, the bankers move to ninth on the log with 33 points from 24 matches while Shabana continues to languish on second-bottom with 18 points having played the same number of matches.

KCB will face Bidco United after the international break, while Shabana will take on AFC Leopards.
