Over 200 Kamukunji families receive Ramadan food donations

Chairman Abdirahman Shibli reiterated the Islamic principle of generosity and altruism, emphasising the duty to support one another, especially during hardship.

In a gesture of generosity, as Muslims observe the holy month of Ramadan, the Property Developers Welfare Society of Nairobi has extended a helping hand to more than 200 vulnerable families.

On Sunday, families from Majengo, California, Airbase, and Eastleigh North received assorted food items, courtesy of the welfare society's longstanding tradition of sharing with the less fortunate.

Implemented by the Peace and Youth Awareness (PAY) Youth Group, the food distribution initiative aims to ensure families have enough provisions for iftar, the evening meal to break the fast during Ramadan.

They received essentials including 10 kg of sugar, 10 kg of rice, 10 kg of maize flour, and three litres of cooking oil.

This marked the sixth consecutive year that the society was giving donations during Ramadan.

Secretary Abdi Dahir expressed the importance of solidarity and compassion within the community, especially during the holy month.

"We want to share what we have with our people. Everyone should have food for iftar," Abdi stated, highlighting the spirit of unity and empathy that defines Ramadan.

Generosity

Chairman Abdirahman Shibli reiterated the Islamic principle of generosity and altruism, emphasising the duty to support one another, especially during hardship.

"It is in the spirit of Islam to share what you have with your fellow Muslims," he said, urging the extension of help to those in need.

Acknowledging the invaluable support received, Abdirahman thanked Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan for his role in ensuring the success of the food distribution initiative.

He emphasised the significance of giving back to the community and the transformative power of acts of kindness and charity.

MP Yusuf thanked the society for tirelessly supporting the less fortunate in the community and encouraged members to continue their impactful work.

Referring to Islamic teachings, he highlighted the spiritual significance of acts of charity, which he said have the profound effect of purifying the soul and removing hardships.

"Sadaqa wipes out the sins of the giver just like water extinguishes fire," Yusuf said.
