UNDP, Nairobi launch digital readiness assessment to transform City into a smart hub

By |

The Digital Readiness Assessment will provide a comprehensive analysis of the city's digital capabilities, identifying key areas for strategic investment and improvement.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kenya, in collaboration with Nairobi City County, has launched its first subnational digital readiness assessment.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in Nairobi's journey towards becoming a smart and digital hub, driving innovation, enhancing public services, and promoting inclusive growth.

Governor Johnson Sakaja of Nairobi City County outlined the city's ambitious vision, saying, "We aspire to transform Nairobi into a thriving digital hub that spearheads innovation and inclusive growth, harnessing the immense potential of digital transformation to create jobs, enhance service delivery, and drive progress both locally and globally.”

The Digital Readiness Assessment will provide a comprehensive analysis of the city's digital capabilities, identifying key areas for strategic investment and improvement.

By leveraging state-of-the-art technologies and fostering strong collaborations with stakeholders, Nairobi City County is committed to creating a smart, resilient, and connected urban environment.

UNDP Kenya's Resident Representative Anthony Ngororano, stressed that "the Digital Readiness Assessment marks a significant milestone in Nairobi's journey to become a smart city. By analysing the current digital landscape and pinpointing areas for growth, we can make informed investments in technologies that will spur innovation and enhance public services, ultimately benefiting all residents."

The assessment highlights key components necessary for Nairobi's digital transformation, including strategic investments in technology, building strong collaborations, enhancing public services, and promoting inclusive growth.

Kefa Omanga, Director of Partnerships at the Office of the Governor, Nairobi County, said the power of inclusive digital transformation lies in its ability to bridge the gap between people, businesses, and governments, "thereby accelerating our progress towards achieving sustainable development goals and creating a more equitable and connected society."

UNDP Kenya and Nairobi City County extend an invitation to all stakeholders to join forces and be a part of Nairobi's digital transformation journey.
