KNEC traces leak of KCSE computer theory paper to Eastleigh

Yesterday the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) received information that the computer theory paper I, that was scheduled to be done between 1400hrs to 1630hrs, had been circulating on social media platforms.

Yesterday the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) received information that the computer theory paper I, that was scheduled to be done between 1400hrs to 1630hrs, had been circulating on social media platforms. The source of the leak was traced to Sanabil Secondary School, located within the Eastleigh area. Subsequently, a joint operation led by KNEC officials, the District Commissioner of Kamukunji, representatives from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the Sub County Director of Education, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Starehe, and the Eastleigh North Police Station swiftly responded to the alarming development.

Upon arriving at the scene, it was discovered that only one student was to sit for the examination, raising suspicions about the leaked paper circulating online. Substantial evidence pointed to an unauthorized spare paper being shared, prompting the arrest of three individuals, namely the center manager, deputy center manager, and supervisor. The suspects were subsequently escorted to the DCI offices in Ruaraka for further investigation, with their mobile phones confiscated for forensic analysis.

Expressing concern over the incident, the District Commissioner of Kamukunji emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "We take this matter very seriously and will ensure that the culprits face the full force of the law. Such breaches jeopardize the integrity of our education system and cannot be tolerated."

A KNEC official underscored the council's commitment to preserving the sanctity of the examination process, stating, "We are working tirelessly to ensure that the examination process remains fair and transparent. Any attempts to compromise the integrity of the examinations will be met with swift and decisive action."

In a related development, Royal Academy, a sister school, was also in the news following the arrest of two imposters attempting to sit for exams on behalf of the candidates. The incident has heightened concerns about the need for enhanced vigilance and security measures to safeguard the credibility of the examination process.
