Exam council issues fresh guidelines for registration of KPSEA candidates

By |

KPSEA exam is set to begin on October 28 to 31, 2024.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has issued fresh guidelines for the registration of learners who will sit the 2024 national exams.

The guidelines will affect learners undertaking the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA). KILEA is administered to learners in the Intermediate Level that are ready to transit to the Pre-vocational Level.

Heads of institutions have been directed to register Grade 6 learners sitting for KPSEA exams afresh, as was the case in 2023.

"Candidates presented for the assessment are the eligible learners who have been learning in their schools," the Council noted.

It added that registration for the KPSEA exams should be done through the KPSEA Registration portal which was accessible from January 29, 2024, and will close on March 29, 2024.

In addition, the Council warned institutions against registering ghost candidates, adding that legal action will be undertaken.

"Registration of ghost candidates constitutes an assessment malpractice, which attracts sanctions, including de-registration of the school as a KNEC examination centre," the Council noted.

Heads of institutions have also been instructed to edit candidates' biodata where applicable, to ensure accurate data of all registered learners.

Students' names should be spelt correctly and written in the order depicted on their birth certificates.

Other information that should be captured correctly include; gender, year of birth, citizenship and religion.

KPSEA and KILEA exams are set to begin on October 28 to 31, 2024.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will follow on November 4, to November 22, 2024.

Exam Registration

Speaking at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret on January 8, 2024, KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere urged the learners to register for the national exams, saying the council shall not extend the registration deadline.

Njengere appealed to all school principals to ensure all the eligible candidates were registered within two months.

He said two months is adequate to register all the candidates, warning that there will be no late registration this year as Knec will not extend the period.

"Take advantage of the two months to register all your candidates," Njengere said.

He also urged parents to take responsibility for finding out from their school if their children have been registered within two months.
