KUCCPS records surge in applications after resolving payment delays

As a result of the interventions, the team noted that 22,307 students have submitted their applications successfully on the KUCCPS portal in the last 24 hours.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has recorded an increase in the number of student applications.

This comes after applicants expressed frustrations at KUCCPS for failing to address technical hitches resulting in payment delays, which had persisted for more than a week.

In a joint statement released Friday, Director General of eCitizen Services Issac Ochieng and KUCCPS CEO Mercy Wahome said they have successfully addressed the payment-related delays.

As a result of the interventions, the team noted that 22,307 students have submitted their applications successfully on the KUCCPS portal in the last 24 hours.

"This is the highest number of successful applicants in 24 hours since the process began on February 7, 2024," reads the statement.

As of March 1, 2024, 144,102 students (72.2 per cent) out of the 199,695 students who attained a mean grade of C+ and above in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination had applied.

Based on the application trends of the 2022 KCSE candidates, the placement service targets to enrol 173,178 (86 per cent) of the students with C+ above for placement this year.

So far, 83 per cent of the targeted students with a mean grade of C+ and above in the 2023 KCSE examination have applied.

Applicants who are yet to apply for desired courses on the portal have been urged to do so before the deadline slated on Monday next week.

"Following the stabilisation of the payment integration process, KUCCPS encourages all those who are yet to submit their course choices to do so before the deadline of Monday, March 4, 2024.

"We assure applicants, parents and the public in general that the application process is smooth and all eligible persons should apply."

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu said since the opening of the application portal, the ministry has been monitoring the process to ensure all targeted applicants have a fair, efficient and effective opportunity to apply for their desired courses.

He urged students who scored between grades C and E to take advantage of the ongoing applications and select their desired diplomas, craft certificates or artisan programmes offered in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

“This category of students has the advantage of walking into their preferred Ministry of Education TVET institutions to be assisted with the application process,” Machogu said.
