KCB thrive against Talanta as Ulinzi Stars and Murang’a Seal battle to stalemate

By |

The FKFPL now takes a break until June 15th due to the International Break

Monday’s dead rubber FKF Premier League fixtures saw KCB defeat Talanta 2-0 at the Dandora Stadium while Ulinzi Stars were held to a goalless draw by Murang’a Seal at the Ulinzi Stars complex.

With Gor Mahia clinching the title on Sunday and neither four FKF PL teams playing today really troubled by the relegation survival battle, the quartet had little to play for.

However, KCB’s motivation to go for a victory against Talanta saw the bankers halt a six-match winless streak in the league and as result accumulate 40 points which leave them 11th on the league standings.

Collins Neto opened the scoring for the bankers in 31st minute before Nashon Nanynedo sealed victory for his team with a goal in the 84th minute.

The result plunges Talanta into a precarious position as they are now two points above Shabana who are 16th with 29 points in the 18-team league. Shabana, threatened with relegation for a better part of the season, occupy the play-off spot which only safeguards against an automatic drop to the FKF National Super League.

The team occupying the 16th spot on the league standings at the end of the season will have to negotiate a relegation-promotion play-off match against the team that will complete the 2023-24 FKF NSL season in third place. Therefore, the remaining matches will see Talanta battle to guarantee its safety by ensuring Shabana do not overtake them.

At the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Ulinzi Stars’ uninspiring season unfolded with yet another installment of its struggles to string two wins. The soldiers, 1-0 winners against Bidco United in Round 31, needed a 70th minute goal from the mercurial Boniface Muchiri to force a 1-1 draw with league debutants Murang’a Seal who had taken the lead in the 57th minute courtesy of a Joe Waithira penalty.

The result leaves Ulinzi Stars 13th with 36th points while Murang’a Seal remain 12th with 37 points.

The league will take a break until Saturday, 15th June when league action will resume with teams expected to play the remaining three rounds in eight days. The season is scheduled to end on Sunday, 23rd June.
