A distinctive Jamhuri Day Celebration unfolded in Mombasa, where County Commissioner Abdirizak Jaldesa led the event in Likoni.

However, notable leaders opted out of the primary gathering. Instead, Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, accompanied by MP Bady Twalib (Jomvu), Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), and Mombasa County MCAs, visited prisoners at Jela Baridi in Mombasa.

During this visit, Governor Abdulswamad personally covered fines and facilitated the release of minor offenders, including those charged with driving without a license, obstruction, lacking proper attire for touring, walking without ID, and similar offenses carrying sentences of less than 6 months, with the option of paying a fine.

Expressing his commitment to offering these individuals a fresh start, Abdulswamad stated, "This initiative aims to grant them a second chance at life."

Highlighting recent efforts by his administration, he mentioned, "In the past three months, we have extended NHIF medical coverage, via MombasaCare, to prisoners serving sentences exceeding one year. Furthermore, I have directed the Health Department to implement a methadone program in Kingorani, targeting the reduction of recidivism associated with drug abuse."
