FKF Cup: AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks sail to the semifinals

By |

Kariobangi Sharks will now face KCB FC while AFC Leopards and Police FC will battle in the FKF Cup semifinals

The FKF Cup semifinals will feature only FKF Premier League teams after Kariobangi Sharks and AFC Leopards eliminated lower league sides SS Assad and Compel FC respectively. Both matches were played at the Dandora Stadium.

Equity FC in 2021, then playing in the FKF Division Two league, remain the last team playing outside the nation's top flight to reach the last four of the FKF Cup.

Despite gallant displays against their more illustrious opponents, SS Assad and Compel could not emulate Equity FC's feat.

SS Assad, who play in the FKF NSL, were the first to be shown the door after going down 1-0 to Kariobangi Sharks in their 12 pm kick-off.

John Makwata struck in the 31st minute to see Kariobangi Sharks book their spot in the last four where they will fight for a chance to feature in the finals against KCB.

Kariobangi Sharks, winners in 2018, will be featuring in their first FKF Cup final since 2019 when they finished runners-up after losing 3-1 to Bandari in that year's final.

In the 3 pm kick-off, FKF Division One side Compel FC looked to have set themselves on their way to another giantkilling mission after Philip Simiyu gave them a 1st-minute lead against 10-time winners AFC Leopards.

However, the minnows could not complete the task as Ingwe's experienced showed by dominating the rest of the match to bounce back to a 3-1 victory and put behind their 1-0 Mashemeji Derby loss to Gor Mahia last weekend.

Midfielder Kayci Odhiambo equalised for Ingwe in the 27the minute before Rwandese striker Arthur Gitego completed the comeback with a brace after scoring in the 45th minute and 61st minute.

AFC Leopards, losers to Gor Mahia in the 2022 FKF Cup final, will battle for a chance to appear in the final against Kenya Police who are unbeaten in 2024.

The FKF Cup semifinal matches will be played on 26/27 May.
